Information for veterans
Straight answers about CBD, from federal sources.
A lot of CBD marketing makes big promises to veterans. We start with what the VA, NIH and FDA actually say, including where the evidence is thin, so you can decide with a clear picture.
The short version
Each point links to the source. Dates are shown, because guidance changes.
Pain
NIH describes a 2018 review of 47 studies that found only a small benefit for cannabinoids, a difference that may not matter to patients.
PTSD
The VA/DoD guideline strongly recommends against treating PTSD with cannabis or cannabis-derived products.
Anxiety and sleep
Early research on oral CBD for anxiety is limited. Evidence on sleep is unclear.
Safety
FDA says unapproved CBD products have not been evaluated for effectiveness, dosing, interactions or side effects.
What this site will and won't do
We will
- Quote and link federal sources, with dates.
- Say plainly when the evidence is limited or against.
- Point you to the Veterans Crisis Line and VA care.
- Encourage you to talk with your health care provider.
We won't
- Claim CBD treats PTSD, pain, anxiety or any condition.
- Use testimonials as proof that a product works.
- Suggest CBD can replace care from your VA or other providers.
- Imply the VA or any agency endorses us.
The FTC has specifically named PTSD and broad severe-pain claims among the CBD claims that need strong scientific proof. See our sources.
